CANDLEWICK PRESS, THE GIRL SCOUTS OF EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS (GSEMA)
To promote literacy, Candlewick worked with GSEMA to create a series of book-centric spring and summer camps. There were three goals: to increase girls' access to quality literature, to foster a love of books and reading, and to introduce Girl Scouts to strong, independent girl characters in children's literature.
CAST (CENTER FOR APPLIED SPECIAL TECHNOLOGY), 14 EDUCATIONAL AND PHILANTHROPIC NON-PROFIT PARTNERS
CAST and partner organizations developed Understood.Org, a digital resource for parents of children with learning and attention issues. The website serves more than 2 million uses per month, and, in 2015, it won a Webby award for Best Family/Parenting Site. It shares CAST's "Universal Design for Learning" across a wide audience, bringing inclusive strategies to everyday environments.
CHARLESBRIDGE, ERIC CARLE MUSEUM OF PICTURE BOOK ART
The publisher and the museum developed Reading Books with Children: How to Shake Up Storytime and Get Kids Talking About What They See, based on Megan Dowd Lambert's "Whole Book Approach." The resource describes how the jacket, casing, endpapers, and front-matter pages set the stage for the story to come; and how typography and page design impact the reader’s experience.
JOURNAL OF BONE AND JOINT SURGERY (JBJS), NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL OF MEDICINE (NEJM), AREA9 LEARNING
Based on the architecture of the NEJM Knowledge+ platform for adaptive learning, JBJS developed a multi-format question bank to address certification maintenance for orthopaedists. Area9 integrated the question bank into Knowledge+.
LEARN LAUNCH ACCELERATOR, LEARN LAUNCH INSTITUTE
The accelerator and institute connect Boston's edtech/venture community with its educator/non profit community. The accelerator works to educate startups and investors on the Pre-K, K-12, Higher Ed & Workforce tech markets, and the institute's programming focuses on a adoption and piloting tactics - both for accelerator products, and for technology in learning environments generally.
LSC COMMUNICATIONS, FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION (FAA)
The FAA develops aeronautical charts, books, and related products for sale at hundreds of retail outlets. LSC Communications will now supply directly to these outlets in a print-on-demand model that includes sales, customer service, and logistics.
MACMILLAN LEARNING, BENETECH
Macmillan and Benetech - a developer of software for social good - worked together on the 2nd annual Code Sprint for People with Disabilities in 2017. The event identified and designed open source solutions to make common software functionality - such as drag-and-drop, sliders, and sorting - more accessible for people with disabilities.
THE MIT PRESS, YEWNO
The MIT Press is currently collaborating with Yewno, an education technology company based in Silicon Valley, on a new initiative called Yewno Unearth. Unearth is a knowledge inference tool that uses full-text analysis, computational semantics, and machine learning to provide publishers with topical hierarchies and concept mappings of their content.
WATTPAD, HACHETTE BOOKS GROUP
Wattpad writers generate original content a chapter at a time. Through a partnership with Hachette Audiobooks, up to 50 top Wattpad stories will become fully produced audiobooks in 12 months.
